I first met Bernie De Souza in the early 1990’s, when he was my upline Diamond. At that time I was unemployed, and he gave me some great support and advice. He later went on to mentor me for many years.

From taking his advice I went on to jointly set up a success multi-million pound turnover specialist construction company with my business partners, a venture that continues to thrive after 10 years in existence, even in the uncertain economic climate prevailing in the late 2000s.

Bernie has a unique story. From an ethnic minority background, he initially had a career in the Royal Air Force, and after discovering Network Marketing in the early 1990’s went on to become the fastest growing and youngest Amway diamond in the UK in the space of 3 years.

I have travelled with him abroad on a number of occasions, and watched him on stage in front of thousands of people at the De Vos Place Conference Centre, Grand Rapids, near the Amway headquarters in Ada, Michigan, with Rich De Vos in attendance. I have been privileged to see him address, motivate and teach tens of thousands of distributors at the NEC and NIA arenas in Birmingham, England, as well as at venues like Wembley, and the Sheffield, Telford & Docklands arenas, etc.

He has organized events with speakers such as Mark Gorman, Dr Robert Rohm and Ron Ball to name a few, and I have even seen him share the stage at the NEC with people like Alan Hanson, the current match of the day pundit, and former Olympic champion Kriss Akabusi.

Quite recently I went to a book launch at Waterstones and from the array of sporting legends present realised that in the sporting field he has had a powerful impact on so many people and teams both in the UK and across the world.

Not so long ago I attended one of his Masterclass workshops in Leamington Spa, featuring Dr Robert Rohm, on communication and leadership. Through my association with him, not only has he impacted my life personally, but I have been introduced to other Amway Diamonds, mentors and role models who significantly enriched and guided the course of my life, not just in the business sense.

I know that he also coaches cricket for many teams on a voluntary basis and is also a playing member of the MCC. I am aware that he uses the same leadership skills for achieving success both on and off the field. Thousands of people across the world have benefited from his personal guidance, presentations, books and audio material, and his ability to see things big and then communicate them simply and clearly is a rare gift.

Finally, I have observed how, despite his driven nature, he has learned to take a genuine interest in people and be approachable and available to all.

After watching what seemed like an endless procession of people walk across the stage to celebrate achieving new levels in the Amway business I was amazed as the thing they all had in common was to mention that they were all part of Bernie DeSouzas’ group.

My introduction to Bernie De Souza was when he was speaking at a conference in Birmingham to twelve thousand attendees, along with Dr Robert Rohm from the United States, an authority on personality profiling and a human behaviour expert. A massive change from his time at the Royal Air Force where as a physical training instructor his people skills were expressed through blowing a whistle. In Newcastle, England several years ago I had the chance to hear him speak along with Robert Kiyosaki, the world famous author who has had several books in the bestsellers chart simultaneously on financial management. Bernie continues to develop relationships with people not for his benefit but for those with ears to listen as he is a sought after speaker.

With his background in sport he has coached and mentored international cricket teams, English Premier League football teams and Olympic athletes .I am honoured to have him mentor me too as I know how valuable his time is and his formidable driving force to help people grow in all areas of their lives.

Being present to hear him speak at a conference with Allan Pease the bestselling author and relationship expert as they shared the stage was a phenomenal experience and the information shared second to none. All in all he is one of the most remarkable men I have ever met.

I first Net Bernie De Souza, Amway Diamond in 1989, when he first got involved with the Amway Businesses Bernie was a corporal Physical Training instructor, at Royal Air Force Rudlow Manor and he was living in married quarter.

I saw him go from a 3% to a Diamond in three years and saw his lifestyle change dramatically. He moved from rented accommodation to a country house with seven acres a swimming pool and all the trimmings.

During this time I saw him speak at many events including the NEC, Wembley Arena, The Docklands and all the large Arenas in the UK. As an Amway Diamond he broke all the records of going diamond in his 20s and being the only Black Diamond in Europe.

With the knowledge he gained as Amway Diamond, helped him have a game plan to pay off his mortgage in five years. By having a lodger als0 given him an additional income. Since the arrival of my beautiful daughter Henrietta Esme in 2006 I have become increasingly frustrated in trying to

find ‘traditional toys' & clothes rather than the run of the mill that the majority of retailers seem to stock nowadays.

I have managed to find a few shops, but travelling on motorways to London, Bath, Cheltenham & The Cotswolds is

not always fun (or fair) with a small child in tow! Having received so many compliments on how I dress Henrietta and enquiries as to where I bought her clothes from I realised I wasn’t alone in my quest.

So together with my passion for traditional charm, Henrietta as my inspiration and the idea that children’s shopping could be much easier and far more enjoyable for parents, I decided to launch my own online children’s boutique, and so Esme Rose was born!

Esme Rose offers a beautiful selection of clothes and toys for the special little people in our lives. I have had a wonderful time hand-picking these classic pieces that bring back a taste of nostalgia but with a modern twist.

I first met Bernie when he was with Amway. I was in the audience at the NEC when he received a standing ovation for becoming the youngest Diamond in Amway and for reaching that level quicker that anyone else in the UK.

He attributes his success to not knowing anything different. He knew what he had to do and just did it. He has continued to set goals and work towards them with a can do attitude ever since.

I was inspired by his success and am proud to say he is now my mentor. His fast pace is very exciting and sometimes challenging to follow. One has to hold on tightly to his coat tails to keep up with him. Having said that, his overriding motivation and passion is to help people to succeed.

Through following the principles he now teaches in understanding human behaviour he has an abundance of patience to help those who are not quite so fast paced and may be more reserved.

Before becoming a successful businessman, author and entrepreneur Bernie was a physical training instructor in the Royal Air Force.

During this time he was introduced to an opportunity to develop his own business without overheads and for a low initial investment.

He did not hesitate. His ambition then was to retire from the Royal Air Force and wave good bye to a boss who had been less than encouraging throughout their time together!! This was to be his way forward and the beginning of a new life for Bernie and his young family.

Taking several months to achieve initial success he was finally “cleared for takeoff,” resigned from the RAF and soared to the heights of Diamond with Amway.

The independent training programme that we both attended to develop our businesses was second to none. At the seminars we had the privilege of
learning from many international speakers and trainers. One very significant trainer was Dr Robert Rohm, an international speaker from the United States and an expert in human behaviour. He spoke very humorously about personality styles.

Bernie has since developed an ongoing business relationship with Dr Rohm and has invited him to speak at his own seminars. He was recently able to arrange for him to visit the UK and personally train and accredit the team of people that Bernie is mentoring.

Bernie’s skills and experience as a sports coach and in business have taken him to international levels. Businesses, sports teams and Olympians have sought him out for motivational coaching to improve their performance and realise their potential.

Other successes that Bernie has enjoyed are being the author of two motivational books designed for network marketers. I was honoured to be at the launch of the second one your success is hidden in your daily routine , which was at Waterston’s Leamington Spa and meet some of the sports stars and authors that Bernie is now friends with such as George Forman, former boxing champion, Mushtaq Ali former captain of the West Indies cricket team and author Geoff Thompson.

I have attended many training programmes that Bernie has provided and been a student at both internationally and in the UK.

Success is a journey, says Bernie and if you are learning you are growing. If you stop growing you start dying. Too many people die with the music still in them. Imagine what you could do if failure was not an option.

He has developed as a speaker and coach, running his own seminars and workshops for personal development. He attracted speakers from Europe and the United States who shared their knowledge on a variety of topics related to running ones own business.

Bernie’s two boys have never seen their father go out to a job. They have observed his business successes and watched his easy rapport with people. He is an excellent example as a father and both boys aspire to be like him, not only as a person but also in business and sport. He is passionate about helping other people in their pursuit of their own success.
